Caring For Adults with Disabilities At-Home and Overnight in Newport News, VA

As a Residential Care Provider you’ll live with 1-2 individuals with disabilities full-time. You will provide live-in caregiving services supplemented by personally selected backup workers.

How do I apply to be a residential care provider?

Please send your resume and letter of interest to Admissions Director Alex Jackson. All applicant information is preferred over email, if needed you can also fax your documents to the office at 540-745-5367. 

Where can I learn more about residential caregiving?

You can learn more about the job opening at our provider orientation sessions. These are typically held twice a month.

How long will the process take to become a provider?

You can receive part-time training to prepare for your residential care provider job. This builds your skill set for working with adults with disabilities. 

Adults with disabilities who are registered for services through Wall Residences are paired with residential care providers that are capable of fulfilling their needs. 

This process takes an undetermined period of time as it is based on needs of current and potential residents. Your timeline will be dependent on when someone new requests care and lodging or moves from another provider’s home. 

Each time a resident moves in with a residential care provider, our goal is to have the match last for a long time. This gives you and your resident stability and time to bond. 

Once an individual is eligible for your home, you’ll receive a notification prior to them moving in. For most providers the process takes around 3-6 months. The length of time it takes to move through the development process is also determined by the speed a potential provider chooses to move through the training and development steps. 

How can I prepare for an adult with disabilities to live in my home?

Wall Residences provides helpful training that ensures you have the skills and confidence needed to work as a residential care provider.

New residential care providers who do not have sufficient experience working with adults with disabilities will be required to work as a backup for another provider to prepare for supporting an individual in your home.

Can I transfer my paperwork from another agency or training center?

You can transfer training paperwork as long as you include the certificate from the class including the instructor’s signature, date the class was taken, and the training expiration date.

If documents showing previous TB screenings are provided and there has been no disruption in care then this is also transferable.

How do I take required training classes?

In order to make becoming a residential care provider as accessible as possible, Wall Residences provides most of your required training courses.

You can access our training calendar to find the upcoming courses you need. Sign up for classes by contacting the program manager you’re working with or the training department.

Providers also need First Aid and CPR certifications which can be obtained through the American Heart Association or Red Cross.

How much do residential care providers get paid?

Wall Residences works to provide all of our employees and contractors with a comfortable quality of life. As a residential care provider you will work as an independent contractor.

Payment will be based on your caregiving experience and can increase over time. Your payment will also be dependent on the Support Intensity Scale of the adult you’re caring for.
