Residential Support Provider Jobs for Retired Military in Hampton Roads

You’ve spent time serving your country, and now that you’re home, you’re probably thinking what’s next?

Virginia’s veterans have a service and care-based mindset with years of meaningful job experience. After years of protecting our country, we know retired military members understand the value of a safe home.

Wall Residences is looking for military veterans who need a next career still rooted in selflessness and duty.

By becoming a Sponsored Residential care provider for one to four adults with developmental disabilities and/or a long term mental health diagnosis, you can support yourself and others. All of Wall Residences’ providers are independent contractors working from their home using our agency license. We are pioneers of person-centered care in Virginia and the best employer to make this lifestyle change with.

A Career Change Rooted in Care

Most of our providers offer residential support services for 1 to 2 people in their home. A select group of our providers expand their care to 3 to 4 people. The vast majority of our residents are adults, however Wall Residences does care for a few children with disabilities on a case-by-case basis.

Our Sponsored Residential Support homes are focused on keeping adults with disabilities in a long term and stable environment. These adults deserve access to a meaningful and fulfilling life, and you can help give them that.

Our providers get the opportunity not only to share a home life with the resident or residents in their care but to explore the community with them. Providers and residents get to experience the outdoors, trips to the mall, walks on a trail, and days at the movies together. Here are some other awesome things to do in the region:

Transition from the Military to Residential Support

Every veteran comes out of the military with a different set of experiences, many of which translate well to a number of civilian jobs. At Wall Residences, we know that retired military service members can make some of the best home care providers, here’s why:

  • You commit to your job and doing it well
  • You are capable of being responsible for yourself and others
  • You take pride in your work
  • You are leaders and role models
  • You work as a team with your residents and support staff
  • You are adaptable to new jobs and scenarios

A great perk of becoming a provider is there is no need to move, we have people looking for care all over the state of Virginia. We know many of our military veterans have spent a long time in the Hampton Roads community and built a strong foundation there. We can pair you with someone who is also interested in the region.

The Hampton Roads area is massive with so much to offer and we want our residents to have plenty of options to live there. You’ll be near our Gloucester office and some of our other home providers located in Hampton and Newport News.

You won’t be the only veteran on the Wall Residences team either, Sheila and Fred Butler offer residential support in Gloucester. Fred served in the Coast Guard for 27 years and now works with his wife Sheila to welcome people with disabilities into their home.

Training and Support for a Successful Home

Sponsored Residential care isn’t usually top of mind for people looking for a new career but it’s a role that changes your life and the lives of others for the better. Providers make new life-long connections with their residents while also getting more time at home with their family.

Wall Residences works to train our home providers so they are ready to bring people into their care. Our providers without experience supporting people with disabilities will spend time working as a back up worker in order to gain agency specific experience.

By working specifically in a Wall Residences setting you’ll be able to learn about policies, procedures, and documentation requirements. You’ll also attend orientation training to learn more about the expectations for service providers. We can assure you that by the time we refer a resident to your home you will be well equipped to care for them.

As a Wall Residences home provider, you will have access to support from program staff, back up workers, and nurses.
