Before you begin working as a provider full-time, Wall Residences provides part-time training. Many providers continue working with their current employer throughout the training period.

When an adult with disabilities applies for care through Wall Residences, our organization works to pair them with available residential providers that can meet their needs.

The timeframe for matches is somewhat unpredictable. Our team does not have control over how often new residents need homes to live in.

Wall Residences ensures that your skills match the needs of any individuals placed in your home. Your wait time will vary depending on the adults with disabilities in need of residential support.

When matches are made, they are intended to last for many years. This is done to provide more stability for you and the person living in your home.

Once an individual is eligible for your home, you’ll receive a notification prior to them moving in. The entire process typically takes 3-6 months.

The following skills are desired:

• Previous work with individuals with disabilities in a regulated environment (at least 6 months)
• Ability to complete documentation (training is provided)
• Ability to use a computer
• Understanding of “person-centered” support

We are especially in need of providers with these skills:

• LPN / RN
• Ability to use and understand sign language
• Experience supporting individuals with significant behavioral challenges
• Accessible homes for individuals who utilize wheelchairs

The Wall Residences team includes many former foster parents, nurses, and social workers who made the transition into caring for adults with disabilities.

We are also interested in hiring residential care providers with experience in the following fields:

• Teaching and Education
• Military Service
• Mental Health Care

Wall Residences has helped countless employees successfully transition into residential care providing. Whether you have years of experience with another agency or are making an exciting career change, you can get the help you need. You will be sufficiently trained and taught the skills you need to work confidently.

If you are brand new to caring for adults with disabilities then you will be required to gain initial experience working as a backup worker. Starting as a backup worker gives you time to learn more about the agency policies, procedures, and documentation requirements. The most integral part of this training will be supporting individuals for the first time.

You can also attend a provider orientation training to learn more about what to expect as a residential caregiver for adults with disabilities.

Yes, you can transfer required training paperwork as long as you provide the certificate from the class including the instructor’s signature, date the class was taken, and date when the training expires.

If documents showing previous TB screenings are provided and there has been no disruption in care then this is also transferable.

Wall Residences offers many of the training courses needed to join our provider network.

Providers also need First Aid and CPR certifications which can be obtained through the American Heart Association or Red Cross.
