The Robertson family lives in a one level, three-bedroom, two bath home on a quiet cul-de-sac in a family-friendly Verona neighborhood. Our home is warm and inviting, decorated with shades of gray and blue and a lot of nautical decorations based on a love of the beach. Common spaces include a large living room perfect for movie nights, dining room for the joy of sharing family meals, and a kitchen big enough for anyone who likes to cook… or who just wants to learn! A spacious hall bathroom, decorated in lighthouses, offers a choice of shower or bath. The private, wooded backyard includes a large tree house, man-made fire pit, plenty of wildlife, and a recently installed an in-ground pool.

The home is conveniently located 10-15 minutes from Harrisonburg, Waynesboro, and Staunton. They are just a short drive to the local Dollar General, Food Lion, Walgreens, several antique malls/stores, and numerous places to eat from fast food options to sit down restaurants.

Rob and Karen Robertson have three adult children. Daughter Allison lives in the home and serves as a back-up worker. Daughter Kayla (who also serves as a back-up worker), her husband, and young children and son Travis and his wife all visit often. The extended family loves cookouts by the pool, game night, s’mores by the firepit, and birthday celebrations. A dog named Jackson (he’s an old man) and three cats, Winston Churchill (aka Church), Jude, and Clayton also call this house home.

Rob and Karen spent several years as foster care providers. Karen is a QMHP-C (Qualified Mental Health Professional – Children) with an Associates Degree in Mental Health Human Services and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Education. Karen has spent much of her career in the school systems working as a Therapeutic Day Treatment Counselor. She has intermediate skill levels in sign language and has worked with the blind & deaf community through VSDB. She also worked at Greenstone Residence in Waynesboro (14 bed ICF-MR group home) and gained experience at Western State Hospital and Shenandoah House.

Rob is a full-time truck driver with SouthEastern Freightline. Allison works full time at AccuTec in Verona as well as doing landscaping for a couple homes.

The Robertsons are very active in their church, with Rob and Karen both serving on council and as youth leaders. They share that a good fit for this home would be someone who appreciates the opportunity to grow spiritually in a small Christian church atmosphere. They also love to take day trips to the lake, zoo, and park. The family enjoys vacations to the beach, mountains, and to try out new places. Very hospitable, they especially love having guests, friends, and extended family over. Rob and Karen said, “We have the room, love, and interest to bring someone into our family to love on and welcome as a part of our family.”
