About the Providers
Russ Johnson began his career supporting individuals with disabilities at Central Virginia Training Center where he spent three years working with individuals who had cognitive, behavioral, and social support needs. Through this experience and his years in the field, Russ developed the knowledge, skills, and compassion necessary to provide high-quality residential services to individuals with intellectual disabilities.
After meeting Nonnie Varney, Russ relocated to Ohio before the couple eventually returned to Virginia where they established their small business, The Bean Barn. In addition to operating the business together, Russ and Nonnie have served as backup workers in Supported Living settings.
Through their involvement in the community, they have built many meaningful relationships and lifelong friendships. They enjoy spending time with family and friends, sharing homemade meals, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. In their free time, they enjoy fishing, scenic drives along the Blue Ridge Parkway, walking and biking local trails, attending seasonal festivals, and exploring their local community and surrounding areas.

Russ and Nonnie rent a two-story home situated on a spacious green lot at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, surrounded by other new builds. The residence features three bedrooms, a bonus room, and two full bathrooms on the upper level. The main floor includes a comfortable living room, office, half bath, kitchen, and dining room. There is also an attached garage offering a workbench and plenty of storage space. The unfinished basement is also utilized for additional storage.
