Michael received his undergraduate degree from Marshall University and worked several years as a classroom teacher. He later received his master’s degree in special education from Nova Southeastern University. Michael also has a master’s, educational specialist, and doctoral degree in educational leadership from Walden University. He spent 22 years in the classroom as a general and special education teacher along with serving as an assistant principal. Michael has also worked at Southwestern Virginia Training Center as the post move monitor and for Mount Rogers Community Services Board as an ID services coordinator.
