The Giesslers live near the Blue Ridge Parkway, a few miles south of the Town of Floyd. Their contemporary log house is in a wooded area with opportunities for gardening, hiking, and fishing. They have a friendly dog who loves people. Dick, a retired pastor, has experience teaching high school special education students and a background in counseling. Diane has been providing services to duel diagnosed individuals for nine years and is experienced in teaching independent living skills.
Both Dick and Diane understand the supported employment resources provided by the Virginia Department of Rehabilitation Services. The Giesslers are active in their church and community, and regularly take advantage of community opportunities; indoor basketball gym, art shows, music events, eating out at local restaurants, bowling, and shopping to name a few. They currently provide support for an individual who is in his forties and who has adapted very well to community based services. The Giesslers would like to care for another ambulatory person. He or she would have a lovely large private bedroom and the opportunity to make many new friends.
